Coed Varsity Debate · Debate!!!!


From Dr. Mooney and Mr. Berdnik:

 

The Debate Team competed at Archbishop Wood on Friday evening in regional Philadelphia Catholic Forensic League action.  Junior Nick Simila was 1st in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate while freshmen Victoria Cannon and John Campbell captured 2nd Place in Varsity Policy Debate.  Senior Lars Midthassel was 6th in Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking and sophomore Ethan Baker was 6th in Varsity Oral Interpretation of Literature.  Freshman Sofia Siravo was 5th in JV Congressional Debate.

The Debate Team also competed at Saturday’s Ridge Invitational in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, which included a field of 59 teams.  Junior Nick Simila was the tournament champion in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate and senior Ethan Knox advanced to the semifinal round of Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate.  Sophomore Ethan Baker was recognized as the top JV performer in an open field of Program Oral Interpretation.  Congratulations to our team, and good luck in this weekend’s Pennsbury Falcon Invitational!

Congratulations to the following seven Tennent students who qualified for the playoffs of the Southeastern PA Debate League:

  • Olivia McLaughlin and Jessica Robison in Policy Debate
  • Ethan Baker in Oral Interpretation of Literature
  • Juliana Whitley in Dramatic Performance
  • Sofia Siravo in Lincoln-Douglas Debate

The first round of playoffs will be held after school at Tennent on Wednesday, February 6th.
